I have a lot of intel server CPUs on their way to John at the moment. Smile

In this lot was one itanium 2 which is different from ones I have got or seen before.

The PCB appears to similar to what used in Madison family of Itaniums but the caps/resistors layout is nothing like I have seen.
I especially has never seen any Itanium 2s (until you get to 9000 series which is totally different) with any additional components on the pin side Confused

I will eventually find out when it gets to John.. but has anyone got or seen one similar?

Here are ebay pics cut down to the chip in question

thx mate for getting me on the right track Smile

doing at bit of research.. i was surprised that both Itanium 2s & PA-8X00s can reside in the same HP9000 SuperDome system.

here is reference chart to what can be mixed in the same system

I hunted for some of them for some time (PA-8800 and PA-8900) however they are quite expensive usually. Nice find. The top looks like other PA-RISC CPUs Smile, just soldered to Itanium package for compatibility and transition to new architecture I guess.
