Guys,

I am trying to upgrade the CPU I have on my MSI board (945GCM5-F V2) and in the MSI website it said to support E6700 Conroe (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1598&maincat_no=1).
however, it turns out that Intel had issued a NEW processor named E6700 last May 2010?!?! which suites the 775 socket, but the details are different.

can you tell me if the new E6700 will work with my board or I need just the old one? why they are using the same name? does this imply that people can buy the new one and install it where the old one placed? BTW - I have the E2140 currently installed...

old E6700 spec:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Duo%20E6700%20HH80557PH0674M%20(BX80557E6700).html

new E6700 spec:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_Dual-Core/Intel-Pentium%20Dual-Core%20E6700%20AT80571PH0882ML%20(BX80571E6700).html

Thanks in advance,

The board doesn't support any 45nm processors, so the Pentium E6700 won't work. You will need old Core 2 Duo E6700.

I have no idea why Intel used the same model numbers as the older Conroe chips (there are also Pentium E6300 and E6600, and Core 2 Duo E6600 and E6300).
