I have a Lg R310 laptop and I want to perform a few upgrades instead of purchasing a new one. I fine at times my processor is running at or near 100%. I am upgrading my harddrive to a Seagate momentus XT 500 gb. I upgraded to 4 gb of ram. I want to upgrade my processor from a T5800 cpu to a T9300. Can I upgrade the cpu and would it would be worth the time, trouble and price? The cpu upgrade will cost me about $100 Any advice would be appreciated?

What are you using your pc for?

100% cpu load at all times makes think about virus or trojan...

Check the processes running and point out which is loading up so high.

I see it when it is doing a virus scan or a spybot scan. I also see high cpu usage when I have multiple browsers open. I do a lot of video encoding as well. Also, I have a chance to upgrade my cpu to a T9300 for about $100.

I wiped my harddrive and did a fresh install windows 7 64 bit. I increased the ram from 3 gb to 4 gb and I ordered a seagate momentus 500 gb XT drive. I use kaspersky antivirus and spybot for malware. I figured why not upgrade and get a couple of extra years out of my laptop. i figured it would be my best bang for the buck.

I believe so too at this point.

Be sure to check if the thermal requirements are the same as the old processor, otherwise you risk overheating and premature death of your new cpu. That isn't very bang for the buck Smile

Do you have R310, or R310-G, or R310-K? I can't find R310 on LG website. Anyway, you may have better chance upgrading to T7800 or T7700 processors because they have the same Merom core as the T5800. They have new core stepping, though, so make sure that BIOS supports it.
