Hy!
I have an asus k42jv-vx051d laptop. The laptop has a core i5-450m cpu.
I intend to buy a core i7-720 or 740cpu. Is it possible to exchange?
Thank you for your answer.

Depends on the laptop BIOS. Seems that 450m and 720 are both PGA988 socket. Well, the i7 can produce 10W more heat so that could also be a problem, but wont stop the processor from starting up, just could make it overheat when stressed.

Yes, especially on a laptop. You should ask the manufacturer if the BIOS supports i7 processors, maybe you don't need an update.

SL* processors are production parts, and they are usually covered by OEM or Intel warranty. Q* parts are qualification or engineering samples. They may have fully or partially unlocked clock multiplier, but on the downside they are not warranted by Intel. Engineering samples may also contain defects, not found in production chips.
