Too fan or Not to fan ??? How can I change them?

Processor - AMD-K7900MNR53B A
Motherboard - GA-71xe
Running - Windows 98se
RAM - 756MB

Since it is not of benefit for me to upgrade my processor, please could someone tell me how to replace the CPU cooling fan and the power cooling fan, these are both extremely noisy and are attached to my socket A processor.
If someone could recommend a fan under 25db that I could replace these fans with it would be great ? I have been checking on Ebay, but don't really know what I am looking for. Also as a novice, so should I try to install it myself or take it to a professional ? I have successfully installed memory and AGP and PCI cards without problem. Laughing

You shouldn't have problems doing it yourself. Remove the processor, remove the fan, remove old thermal paste (if there is one), put new thermal paste, put new heatsink/fan and put the processor in place. Don't use excessive force when you remove and install the processor, don't touch gold contacts on the bottom.

This one will be more difficult to replace. If I understand you correctly this is a fan in computer's power supply. To replace it you will need either (1) unassemble the power supply and replace the fan (may require some soldering), or (2) replace the power supply. If you're not sure you can do it then do (2) as taking the computer to professional may cost you more.

id highly recommend against replacing the power supply fan.

for one theres a risk that you might electrocute yourself. those capacitors are rather large.

two, theyre not made to be replaced, so you may destroy your psu trying this.

and three, if you do replace it with a slower, quieter fan, it may not be adequate to cool the psu, and it may die on you anyhow.

just check out a new psu if its that noisy. theres a lot of quiet ones out there, and even some with no fans at all.
