Hello All Very Happy
I was hopeing someone could doublecheck me. I am upgrading a computer built in 2000 and I am new to PCs.
Motherboard is an Asus A7V266 Rev 1.07 Current BIOS is Rev 1002B and there is a sticker on the box saying "Palomino Support".

If I got it right the most CPU This MB can handle is an AMD Athlon XP 2600 T-bred core Part # "AXDA2600DKV3C" and I MUST flash my BIOS to use it. Or have I missed something?

How long should that battery (on the MB) last, should I change it out?

Mystery: Once I set my clock (lower right corner on desktop) the first time I turn off the pc it looses 3 hours. Only the first time, if I turn it off again it is still 3 hours behind. This doesnt happen from standby or restart only when I turn it off. Turn it off for 4 days, still only 3 hours behind.
Any Ideas?

Ok I am a bit lost, I went to a number of sites looking for CPU fans and some only had Thermal Gel/paste? Is this something that goes between the CPU and the heatsink? Or is it replacing CPU fans?

Thank you for your time
Braven

Yes you have to flash to 1011 version if you want that your PC fully recognize Athlon 2600+ Thoroughbred.

If there is original never replaced then I'm sure it's dead - you will see that when BIOS will not holds your configuration (i.e. system date) and you are getting CMOS checksum error on every unplugged power cord from PC.

That battery or damaged south bridge (chipset). Change CR2032 battery.

Yes thermal grease is necessary. You must put a little on CPU core and then mount cooling system - heatsink + cooler. AMD Socket A (462) which you have is using same cooling as Intel's Socket 370 (Pentium III).

Thanks for your help.

Really glad you mentioned the Pentium III thing Ive been looking all over for a fan, this ones a bit old so I want to replace it.

Yep confirmed, the battery on the MB is the one it came in the box with.

Take Care
