I know active auctions really shouldnt be posted, but is one from a well known seller, but I'm guessing the auction will be ended and relisted

The bidder here I would guess.. would be really peeved at ebay's automatic bid increment feature taking a day off on this listing
and he is bidding against himself Shocked

LISTING REMOVED

why do you think it will be relisted?
This is up to the seller. And revealing one's max bid early does no harm to the seller Smile

The persons bid would drop to just above lowest bid and retracted bids would be listed on the page

That is strange, I have not seen that before.

By the way, why do some first bidders place multiple incremented bids? It must be some sort of smart bid strategy.

I have seen some put in up to 30 bids.. 1 cent apart trying to convince others not to bid Laughing

It would be possible if there was a reserve price. I don't remember if it should say "Reserve price met" or not once the the reserve was met.

as "Reserve Met" used to be listed

I thought you needed a second bidder to get to the reserve though ie your max bid wouldn't meet the reserve if no one else was bidding. i'm sure this has happened to me in the past, but maybe they have changed it now

you dont need a 2nd bidder.. say the reserve is $50 and starting price is $10

if only you bid the following amounts.. this is what will happen

$10 >> $10 Reserve not met
$20 >> $10 Reserve not met
$40 >> $10 Reserve not met
$60 >> $50 Reserve met

so if you are the only bidder and your bid above the reserve in one or more bids... the reserve is met and the item will sell

maybe a once off.. but ebay used to list "Reserve met" on listing.
but now in one of their goal post moving exercises.. once the reserve is met, there is no note on the listing that there was a reserve

I never really understood the whole "reserve met" thing. If you want at least $50 for an item, then don't have the bidding started at $10 Razz
I know theres some benefit for the seller, but I just find those annoying.
Just my $0.02

ebay just updated their buyer protection and privacy policy.

here is interesting point out of some:

"We reserve the right to suspend a buyer's coverage under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy if we suspect that buyer is colluding with a seller to misdeclare the value or type of an item for evading customs fees."
