i need to curb my enthusiasm about cpus for a bit, as it were..
ive spent over $300cad on chips this month alone, and ive got another 50-100 i need to pay for as well
not counting group buys (since cpushack alone could put my total to shame with that one k6 auction), how much have you guys spent on chips you kept for yourself in the last month? |

Too much! (Sorry...someone HAD to say it so I'm just getting it out of the way)
Anyway, about $150 or so. As I only collect Intel, I can only imagine what some of these totals are going to be from the "collect everything ever created" crew amongst us.

im part of the 'collect everything' crew
more or less
like ive said before, my main motivation is how the chip looks.. if its a boring package and has nothing going for it visually, ill only bother with it if it has some signifigance to me (such as one of those blank k6s.. which id like but i cant afford!) ..
ill always buy anything amd, for intel theres a few id like (s478 p4 and celeron, itanium 1 and 2, tualatin).. and im also thinking about going for cyrix and idt as well
i may limit myself to x86 and just sell off the non x86 chips i have.. |

I was spending $100 - $150 per month when I was out of work. This was mostly covered by shipping old group buys and by selling chips. Now I spend around $1000 per month, half of it is for the chips that go to the collection, another half is for spare (for trade/sell) chips.

About $100 for chips collection per month, but I'm going to spend $200 for one chip , it's a gold-cap Intel 80386 ES, very very rare. _________________ Webmaster of China Collector's Site

This is going to be hard to believe but I have close to $100,000 in my chips and I have only been collecting for a couple of years so you can see that I have totally lost my mind Don't think for a minute I am rich though as I am quite the opposite and the Army doesn't pay that well.
With that said, if I averaged it out I guess I have spent a little over $1000 a month. There was a couple of months that I spent over $10,000 but most months especially lately I have been much more conservative. If I counted all the chips I owned I would bet I could match most anybody but I have many duplicates of quite a few of my chips. and hold onto most of them for selling and trading later. Anybody want to buy my collection
I will be listing a C4004 grey, C3002, several C8008s and an 1101 (with the Intel logo on it) tomorrow. See anything you like

So Lee, are you involved in Military procurement? You know. $20000 for a toilet seat, $5000 for a hammer, that sort of thing?
Either that or in the picture, Bush is slipping you where he buried Saddam's stockpile of cash.

What do you mean by not paying well? $100,000 worth of chips? Sounds like I should get into the Army ASAP! [/quote] |

100000$ If it was in your pocket instead of in your chips, then you'll be rich !!
This last month I spent around 100-150$. From the beginning (~2,5 years), I think I spent around 1000$ (bought cpus - sold cpus)
I think it is quite little, and it is essentially because I've sold a lot of cpus and because I don't usually buy cpus over 25$... |

Don't join to fast. I used to own a couple of computer shops. When I sold them I used a lot of that money to get me started. Now I just suck up a bunch of debt

My most expensive month (or better "30 days") was about 3500 Euro, about 750 for my collection and the rest for trades and ebay stuff. It was end feb/end march this year, not long ago...
I try to get some money at ebay and spend it for my collection - so to go financial 1:1. That month wasn't successful in this case;-)
You know, trouble with the wife...
But so what, buying chips is better than investment fonds. More fun and you have something in your hands!
What might a grey C4004 bring in ebay when I'm 65?
That's in 27 years, as long as a normal life insurance goes...
Ok, to have one C4004 as a life insurance is a little optimistic;-) |
