Acquired these this weekend, from a new source
These are secondary (grown from another lab crystal, not a seed but a wafer) SiO2 (quartz) crystals.
These, I'm certain, are cut up for use in quartz oscillators.
They are quite large, and beautiful. Enjoy! |

Yes, they are atrificial (SiO2, not technically Quatrz) and are certainly grown around the clips which held the seed wafer in place
More pics to come, one of these beauts is going to Theodore Gray, the guy who owns the "Wooden Periodic Table table" elements collection! |

John, Quartz is Si02 but SiO2 is not always Quartz- Quartz being a natural mineral, these certainly being laboratory made
If I can get more (there's one more swapmeet this year, and I know the seller will be back again) I'll see what I can do. They sure are fantastic! |

| Wanted here, quartz crystals for making oscillator crystals. They should be big enough to make one inch squares and thick enough to make oscillating elements of 2 MHz and lower in frequency. A friend has been looking for a 5.575 MHz crystal for years. |

Those are cool athough there is no big
difference to usual glass! _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

Oh yes there is!
These have a faceted surface similar to natural Quartz crystals, but the clarity is perfect and the color refraction is much more intense than glass, plus Quartz is harder than glass on the Moe scale of hardness.
I want one for coffee table decoration, if my wife doesn't object _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |
