Hello all! I just bought a laptop off of Craigslist. It is a Lenovo ThinkPad. When viewing YouTube videos or basically any streaming media that CPU is pinned at 100%. I ran CPU-ID and found that the frequency of the cpu was changing very quickly from as low as 400 MHz and all the way up to 4GHz in seconds. I included a CPU-z read out below. All of the different frequencies change including FSB and RAM. Even the VID fluctuates. I went in to the BIOS and disabled all SteedStep features or power saving options too. Does anyone think that the actual CPU could be bad?

At 4GHz you should smell a fire. To be serious it is impossible to reach that clock.
Is your laptop hangs or restarts ?
Run Orthos (priority 1 for safe test) and check in CPU-Z (latest version) or Everest again. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

| cpu-z reports it hitting 4 GHz for less than a second and then goes back down to 400 MHz and jumps around every second. Overall is just slow. No complete freezing but hangs. I'll check out what you told me to do a report back. Thanks! |
