I have a compaq presario c500 laptop with built in single core celeron m520 1.60ghz rated @ 533mhz in hewlett-packard 30c6 motherboard. I'm planning to upgrade it to core 2 duo t5600 1.83ghz rated @ 667mhz. Can my laptop's motherboard support cpus with 667mhz fsb as an upgrade? I've done some research but i can't find some answers. Both cpus are socket m type but i'm not sure if my unit can handle 667mhz fsb. Any suggestions are highly appreciated...thanks!

There are a chance to work it. Propably nobody have C500 here to confirm it in 100% but when I googled I have found info about that someone have upgraded to T5500 successfuly.

Also, run CPU-Z and see what kind of chipset you have in the laptop. Then look for CPU support list for that chipset.

Thanks gennadiy. I've done what you instructed but unfortunately it can't be upgraded. my laptop has intel i943/940GML chipset. I browsed Intel support pdf, and it says it can only support intel celeron m core based processors @ 533mhz only.

i943/940GML means that it has either 943GML or 940GML chipset. The 940GML doesn't support 667 MHz FSB, but the 943GML does. Some Compaq Presario 500 laptops came with Pentium T2060:

and this processor is not on the 940GML CPU support list. This make me think that you may have 943GML chipset. The best way to confirm is to look at the markings on the chipset, but I'm not sure if you can do it or not. In the worst case you should be able to upgrade to dual-cores Pentium T2130, or Core Duo T2350, or Core Duo T2450, all of which have 533 MHz FSB.
