Hi! I'm a newbie in this site & I have little knowledge about computers. I'm planning to retire my ageing socket 478 Pentium 4 2.26Ghz Northwood. I have a tight budget & I want to build a new low cost, low power unit with these following two options: 2.4Ghz Intel Celeron Dual Core E3200 + Biostar G31D-M7 motherboard or 2.8Ghz AMD Sempron 145 + Biostar A780L3B motherboard, both with 2 gigs of DDR3 1333 SDRAM. The difference in cost between these two set-up is quite minimal. I usually do net surfing most of the time, playing online games, music and video downloads among others. I guess any of these two options is more than adequate enough to perform these tasks. However, performance wise, I don't have any concrete idea which of these two machines has the upper hand. Which is better, Celeron Dual Core or Sempron 145? Any suggestions or comments from the readers of this site shall be appreciated. Thank you very much!

In most applications the E3200 is the faster. You can see some benchmark comparisons here:

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/875/AMD_Sempron_145_vs_Intel_Celeron_Dual-Core_E3200.html

Jus click the performance tab when you visit that page.
