Hello! I'm new to this site & I have limited knowledge about softwares. I'm planning to build my own rig based on LGA 775 platform. I'm not yet ready for i series processors. But before I do, I just want to ask: What are those tasks with Multi-Threaded apps and what are those tasks with Single Threaded apps? I'm really confused about this. I need to know them so that I can select the right processor for me. Anyway, I usually do net surfing, music and movie downloads, video downloads, online gaming, photo editing using adobe cs3. Due to my tight budget, I'm eyeing for a mid range 3.0Ghz pentium e5700 as my choice. Is this the right one for me? Any recommendations or suggestions shall be appreciated. Thank you very much!

Most of the tasks, that you described, don't require more than one core. Adobe CS3 should benefit from more than one core, and some (many?) of its applications support multi-threading. I think E5700 will be sufficient for what you want to use it, that is if you not going to work with very large files.

Agreed. Also, even single threaded apps can benefit from a dual core CPU as operating system background processes can run on one core while your single threaded app utilizes the other core. The E5700 should satisfy your needs.
