It looks like it might be a mobile PIII on an adaptor.

If he cleans off the thermal compound he should see a part number and/or sSpec which would make identification a simple task.

PIII mobile CPUs had core on top not on bottom side. This chip reminds me only chinese mobile versions.

It's not a fake, it's a genuine mobile processor that has been put on an adaptor to use in a socketed system. It's quite common to find those processors on adaptors (as it is with some other QFP and BGA chips).

It's the same as the one Genna showed you, except that yours has a heatspreader on it.

thank you for the information ..

i have one more question .. the adaptor looks like a Socket 5 adaptor ( only one corner missing pin) .. but i saw here : http://www.x86-guide.com/en/cpu/Intel-Pentium-MMX-120-Mobile-(TCP)-cpu-no2308.html same family cpu mounted in socket 7 .. there were both types of adaptors?

both socket 5 & 7 only have the one corner missing

under Intel spec sheet for socket 7.. socket 7 CPUs should have an extra pin so they cant be put into a socket 5 board
but I have yet to see an Intel with the extra pin

but other CPU manufacturers did use the extra pin on their socket 7 processors
