I am both a chip collector and computer collector. Is it legitimate to take a processor out of a computer and throw the computer or should I collect BOTH the computer and chip?

I love computers but I love chips too.

There are a lot more different computers then there are different chips.
Computers take up a LOT of space. Thus I collect chips only.

As long as I have the space under my roof I collect both.
Plus boards.
The more complete things are, the more authentic ...

But anyway, pull the chips is ok, throw the computers away not everytimes.
Pull the chips and sell the computers on ebay, there are a lot of people that are searching for cumputers they can use their chips in.
Of course this is relevant for really old computers (my guess, is the first digit of the datecode a 7, keep it, is it a 8, sell the rest after pulling, is it a 9 or 0, throw it away;-)

ill keep boards to test chips in, but im not going to try and collect every motherboard, or god forbid every computer...

youd need to buy a warehouse if you were serious about that

i can understand collecting some unique computers, like an altair, c64, amiga, maybe an ibm xt...

but as for going after every model of dell or compaq or something.. youd have to be insane Shocked
