|
|
| Hi! I'm new to this site and it's my first time to try upgrading my laptop processor. I have a Compaq Presario c500 with pre-installed 1.6Ghz socket M Celeron M520. It has an Intel i943/940 Chipset Rev.03 based on CPU-Z reading. My processor of choice is a socket M 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo T7400 but it has a 667mhz bus speed. I'm doubtful if my unit can handle a 667mhz processor. Or perhaps a 1.73Ghz Core 2 Duo T5300 with 533mhz bus speed is a much safer choice? Can this chipset accept a 667mhz processor? Any recommendations shall be appreciated. I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my money buying an uncompatible processor. Thank you very much. |

Try to find out what chipset you have in your laptop. Maybe you can take a look at chipset markings if you can get to them. Otherwise, T5300 makes sense, as it's compatible with your laptop, it is cheap on eBay, and it will double the number of cores.
