| Hi1 I'm a newbie to this site and have little knowledge about computers. Please indulge if my ignorance leads the way. I have a pretty old unit ( 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 531 Prescott + Asus P5PE-VM) but I'm still satisfied with its performance when doing some basic tasks. But the moment I'll open about 6 tabs with websites with online games and videos, the CPU fan and the case fan start whining and spinning faster which becomes noisy at times. Is this a normal behaviour? Or is there something wrong with my PSU? I suspect that the 1mb L2 cache memory of the processor isn't adequate enough to handle these applications in succession, that's why it works much harder by spinning the fan at a much higher speed. Am I right? The speed and its responsiveness is quite okay but its too noisy. Do I need to upgrade with a processor with at least 2mb of L2 cache memory? Please help.. Thanks! |

| Might need to clean out your processor fan and your entire system. If it's plugged up with dirt, it may be only marginally cool enough when not loaded down with work, and then you load it down, it's passing the thermal threshold and the motherboard is ramping up fan speed to compensate. |
