Hi. I have an HP Envy 15, that came with an i5-2450m and 6gb of RAM. I wish to upgrade the CPU. I have two questions regarding this.

1. Which processor should I choose? I want a processor that ideally will clock in at around 3ghz AND will work with my laptop.

2. Will there be any repercussions of doing so? Will I need to also upgrade my power supply or my RAM?

Thank you so much for your help.

The fastest dual-core processor is i7-2640M, however you won't see much of an improvement. HP Envy 15 laptops are also shipped with quad-cores, therefore I think that you should be able to upgrade to i7-2630QM/2670QM/2720QM/2760QM/2820QM/2860QM. They all have higher TDP than i5-2450M, and the laptop may run a bit hotter when all cores are loaded. Still, it's only 10 Watt higher, so you won't need to change power supply or anything else.
