Hello,
on some ceramic CPUs I've residues of used glue (bottom of the cooler)
Does anyone know what it is possible to remove it?
I tried gasoline, alcohol, acetone, silicone remover, but nothing works Sad

Thanks for any advice

Let it soak in methylated spirits for a day or two

Here I encountered a problem that I did not expect - getting Methanol is almost impossible Sad
Everywhere they want special permission to work with poisons for me Sad
It is possible to use a different solvent? If not, I'll have to find someone with this permission...

If the residue is tough and bonds strongly to the chip, it is Epoxy cement and only soaking in Methyl alcohol will soften it.

I've never tried using 100% Ethyl (grain) Alcohol and it might be worth a try....if you don't drink most of it first! Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing icon_drunk

Chuck them in some 100 proof Vodka Laughing Laughing might do the trick Laughing Laughing

Then you could filter out the impurities when done and still get happy Laughing Laughing Laughing

Methylated spirits is ethanol, not methanol. You will need to soak the chip in it for at least one day and it may take several cycles of soaking and scraping to remove all the residue. I've done out several times and it works well on most epoxy glues.

Hmmm - substance that I have on the CPU it is not tough (it will not epoxy). Consistency more like rubber or silicone and it is such a greasy. So I tried silica remover too, unfortunately unsuccessfully.

I scrape off that rubber kind carefully with a razor edge, then wipe off the remaining residue with some mineral spirits {Naptha).

That's the stuff. Mostly ethanol with a bit of methanol to make it undrinkable. It works well on epoxy glue.
For rubber adhesives, have you tried using an eraser on it (after scraping most of it off with a sharp blade first)? That works sometimes.
I had one Pentium 100 that I could not get the adhesive off. It didn't respond to methylated spirits and was seemed to be harder than diamond. I think I eventually admitted defeat and threw the chip in the bin! Another chip I threw out was a P4 that was covered in Artic Silver, the worst of all the heat trasfer pastes to remove. One touch and its embedded in your skin! Horrible stuff.
