I've read an article in a magazine that Windows XP Pro SP-3 will be phased out from the market in May 2013. So in this case most users are now forced to upgrade to Windows 7. If that is the case, I have few questions to ask:
1. For most users with old motherboards with no windows 7 support, can they be upgraded? How?
2. Do I need to reformat the hard drive? If not, how can I upgrade through the net?
It's my first time to upgrade an OS, and I'm not quite familiar with it. Any suggestions or recommendations shall be appreciated. Thank you!

1) Drivers for the motherboard aren't the issue, it's going to mainly be older video cards or IGP's that will have the issue with no drivers available for Windows 7.

2) There is no direct upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. You will need to do a fresh install.

Will Windows 7 install on a Super 7 board, i.e. an AMD K6-III+?

Why not?
I heard about successful installations on K6-2.

There are ways around the minumum requirements for RAM and CPU speed, such as installing Win 7 on a board that meets the requirements, and then running sysprep, and moving the install to the slower board.
