p2 slot 1 classification

i try to sort my pentium 2 slot 1 CPU ... as i know there are 2 kinds of cores: Klamath (80522) and Deschutes(80523)....


from my chips:

- 80522 have a metal cover without corners - like SL2HF in the picture
- 80533 have same metal cover but it's square - like SL2W8
- third kind of look - like SL2U6 cpus are also Deschutes?

and one more info needed: why some have case like Pentium III ?



combining them, there are 5 kind of Pentium 2s:

- Klamath with pentium 2 case - ex: SL2HF
- Deschutes model1 with pentium 2 case - ex: SL2W8
- Deschutes mode 1 with pentium 3 look like case - ex: SL3EE
- Deschutes model 2 with pentium 2 case - ex: SL2U6
- Deschutes mode 2 with pentium 3 look like case - ex: SL357

First type is simply called SECC, with the full "cartridge" around the CPU PCB.. The Pentium III style is called SECC2, it deletes the heatplate, and just has the plastic faceplate for aesthetic purposes.. Just means the PII's that are SECC2 are later models pretty much..

Unless Intel made some with the wrong packaging at some point..

As for the CPU BGA type, looks like the Klamath uses ceramic caps on the unused space for decoupling, perhaps later versions didn't need it?? As for the late model ones, those are flip chip BGA instead, the small brown ones with blue dice on them..
