Hi! I recently installed CPU-Z software (version 1.61.3) so that I can check if the activated speedstep is working at idle load. I set the speedstep to auto in the BIOS set-up and adjusted the power scheme to portable/laptop to activate the enhanced speedstep feature of the CPU. To my surprise the software reads 1066mhz rated FSB and BUS speed of 266mhz but the core speed didn't decrease. It should go down to 2.8Ghz at idle when speedstep is activated. (My specs are: Asrock Conroe 865GV board with BIOS P1.40, 3.20Ghz Pentium 4 641, 2gigs Corsair DDR400 CL-3, 256mb Inno3D Geforce FX 5500, WinXP Pro SP-3) P4 641 is supposed to operate at 200mhz BUS speed & 800mhz FSB. Why does it read this way? Is it an error on the software or is it just a natural behavior of the CPU? I'm really confused about this. Thanks to any answer..

Your bus is operating at 200MHz, however, it uses QDR signaling, giving an effective 800MHz FSB.

CPU-Z 1.61.3 is buggy with P4 Speedstep. My Pentium D915 also shows 933MHz FSB.

Speedstep will show the current FSB, so when speedstep changes the multiplier / fsb, it'll be reflected in CPU-Z too. However the OP's situation isn't the case. His bus is a 200MHz FSB, however, with the FSB being quad pumped, this gives an effective 800MHz data rate on the FSB. All Pentium 4 chips used a QDR FSB.

That's all correct, problem is with the 1.61.3 version of CPU-Z. Earlier versions worked perfectly.
