Sad Tried to upgrade to windows 8 to computer with XP PRO on a AMDkm400-8235 motherboard and socket A(432) AMD XP athlon 2600+ processor.
Windows 8 tells me I need a PAE, NX and SSE2 processor to run windows 8 to work.
Can anybody tell me if there is a suitable processor to fit this motherboard please.
If not windows 8 is useless

i don't think there are any Socket A CPU's that supported SSE2. I think it has PAE, but probably lacks NX support as well..

You have to change computer if you want to use Win8. Anyway on XP 2600+ this would work like XP on Pentium MMX

There's no suitable processor for Socket 462. However, in the prerelease, booting from the DVD or a USB install would skip the SSE2/NX/PAE check and allow it to be installed on anything that met the minimum MHZ/RAM requirements. There's also a sneaky way around even those minimums too, and it involves installing on a supported machine, and creating a sysprep image and redeploying it on the unsupported machine. The initial check is skipped, since it's completed during the initial install.
