Can anyone tell me if this is a cpu?

I pulled this of a cpu card, and figured this would be the cpu, since it has gold pins, and just looks like a cpu. i haven't been able to find any info on this.

Thanks,

Dan

Could anyone also identify these chips:

Some I think are cpus, others I'm clueless as to what they might be.

Thanks,

Dan

MB8739AE - 8 bit microcontroller?
D8251A - serial data controller
D8253-5 - programmable interval timer

I couldn't find information about other two chips.

Gennadiy,

Thanks for the info. Quick question, is a microcontroller the same as a cpu? Are these the type of chips collectors are interested in? I often trash old equipment, and I've started pulling interesting chips off of boards. I guess I'm figuring erroneously that an interesting chip will probably be a cpu. The Fanuc chip in the top picture has gold legs, so I figured that it must have been an important chip, and thus probably a cpu Smile . But I guess not... These all came from an old CNC machine, so I figured they wouldn't be that common. I will list these on ebay, see if anyone wants them. I just hate giving the wrong info in the description, like calling a chip a cpu, just because it looks like one Smile .

Thanks,

Dan

Microcontroller (MCU) is basically a CPU with on-chip RAM, ROM and extra on-chip peripherals like parallel I/O, serial I/O, timer, etc. Microcontrollers do not always have RAM or ROM. Sometimes microcontrollers with both RAM and ROM are called "single-chip microcomputers" as they do not require any other chips to function.

MCUs are less popular with CPU collectors than processors for multiple reasons: most of microcontrollers were never used in computers, there are many more microcontroller families than CPUs, it's easier to find hardware to play with CPUs, etc. It doesn't mean collectors will not buy MCUs - white/purple ceramic microcontrollers usually sell as good as CPUs.

Sorry if it sounded like a lecture Smile

Gennadiy,

Thanks for the info Smile . I will list these on ebay. Most times it seems like it's not worthwhile doing that, but one does learn a thing or two Smile , and I guess that's good. Please check out my auctions later today. I will put up many different cpu lots, some quite unommon. Including a very weird AMD Japan that says 133W168HC. I'm guessing that means it's 133 mhz Smile , but as always, I'm probably wrong....

Thanks,

Dan
