Hello!
I'll keep this short.
I've been meaning to upgrade my old CPU(AMD Athlon 64 X2) to something better. And now I' m left with the choice of choosing between AMD Phenom II X4 965 and X6 1100T.
I found the comparison sheet: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/782/AMD_Phenom_II_X4_965_(125W__BE)_vs_AMD_Phenom_II_X6_1100T.html ;
but I still wonder what would be a better choice. The upgrade is aimed at my gamin PC. |

The 1100T is an all-around better chip. More cores, supports turbo boost, and more cache. Just make sure your board will support it.
Some may argue that the X4 has a higher clock-per-core, but it's only a 100MHz difference, and the turbo boost will more than make up for that under load. |

i would go for the 1100t in a heartbeat. i own a 1045t and it games everything perfectly with no hiccups anywhere. i hardly ever see anything over 40% usage on anything i do and i can play any game to date. these are really nice processors and they can dish out a lot of kick to a hefty graphics card.
i have a budget gaming system with this chip matched with a radeon HD 6670 ddr5. it has 64 gb/s of bandwidth and the 1045t only uses about 16% processor load to max out the graphics in bench tests. i've read that the processor can take on cards with more like 150 gb/s bandwidths or so with out any bottle necking. so my opinion? more cores, more power. totally on the 6 core bandwagon here..
not sure if this is true or not and i have no tests or information to back it up. but i would think even if the game its self only uses 4 cores, that the processor still has 2 extra cores to throw information at the graphics card if needed. probably not true but like i said.. no info to back that up one way or another.
in any case your system will have 2 extra cores to run your system processes on and leave you with 4 totally completely free and clean cores to get your game on! the 4 core fan boys won't be able to do that.. |
