Check it out, all the specs are right there.

This is an ES Laptop, and I also suspect all the parts inside (Including the Pentium M 1.5GHz) to be ES, too.

Check out the pix Wink

I need a psu to start this up, but how can I look for a psu for a laptop that doesn't exist????

I suspect it's 12v DC.... hmmm

Hey Chip Collector,
I used to own a computer shop where I bought broken laptops from off-lease companies and repaired them. What I discovered was quite often the person testing the laptop would not use an AC adapter with enough Amps at the output and when I got the laptop and applied a stronger AC adapter the laptop worked fine.

My guess is that this laptop takes a small barrel adapter type power supply. What you are looking for is a power supply that has an output of around 19V and around 5 to 6 Amps. You can't have to much Amps as the laptop will only use what it needs. Find an AC adapter with the highest Amps at the output and if the laptop works this will get it running.

If this doesn't work try it again without the battery as that can also cause a laptop not to boot. Dells are notorious for this and I must have bought close to 50 laptops as bad when all I had to do was replace the battery. If neither of these things work you should list it on Ebay...

Good luck!

Compaq usually runs at 18V

And it has about a 6 pin connector Sad

I have seen them with barrel adapters, 2 prong and 4 prong but I don't recall any with six? Good luck! Maybe you can find a charged battery from another laptop to test it?

As far as the power output of the AC adapter is concerned, you are really concerned with the Amps not the volts.

Good luck!

The only chance I have to get this working is plugging in an AC Adapter. There's no battery, and if I buy one (Look at the yellow sticker ) It's said not to hold a charge. But then again there's a question mark so they're exactly sure Question Question Question

I don't want to plug in an 18v ac adapter and fry it; I know the Evo series look almost EXACTLY alike.... once again I'm stuck Very Happy

It's surprising that Compaq didn't put the AC Adapter info showing Input and Output and Polarity on the bottom of the laptop.

I don't think you have to worry about the AC adapter frying the laptop as long as you don't get an AC Adapter that is wired backwards to your plug settings which would be bad...

There is another way of testing it but it would require you to disassemble it and then find the right powered AC adapter and test it for ground and VDCs. You would have to run leads from the AC adapter directly to the spot on the board where it plugs in. With all the different plugs that are out there you still only need one ground and one VDC/amps to get a laptop running.

It is even possible to replace the plug both on the AC Adapter and the Laptop as I had to do that on a bunch of old Military laptops that had odd plugs and I didn't have enough AC adapters but that is a pain in the backside and very hard to get it to look factory.

If you run out of options and you really want to get it working I know where you could ship it to that if it is fixable they could do it. The guy I sold my shop to has been repairing TVs for 30 years and as a pretty good staff. If something isn’t fried they could get it working but then you would have an expensive laptop…

Good luck!
