Hi - it is amateur hour.... I stitched together a few shots of the dies on ONE of the 4" wafers that i recently acquired and came up with these... can anyone help me positively identify the device? It's a Motorola for sure - bug gnarly 'M' logo. it is old for sure - I reckon circa late 1970's. it is possibly a CPU - but what one? BTW - I have 30 of them and some will be going up for sale to lucky members once I know what they are.
Notice the lovely crystalline/gold look on the back of the wafer. These are beauties... and I have a few more types to identify too - XEROX and Motorolas in my 4" collection and Burroughs in my 3" collection.

Hi - thanks to CPU world die shots I got it!! - The wafers are of the MC6803 8-bit micro-controller. 100% positive identification in my opinion. Any thoughts on the likely date?

Hi - I was looking again at my MC6803 wafers under my cheapo microscope when I happened to notice that underneath some of the tracks, when viewed in the right lighting, that the wafer is marked as 6801 - see attached. Now the die shot composite I made clearly identifies this as an MC6803 so why would it have the wafer marking MC6801 and dated 1978?
By the way I still have some for sale if anyone wants one. $50 plus shipping to forum members. _________________ best rgds.

MC6803 is a MC6801 with fewer features, i.e. no on-chip ROM, supports only 2 memory/port mapping modes, etc. So it's pretty much a Celeron version of the 6801
