Use HD68B09EP instead of S68B09P in Prophet 2000 Sampler?

(Please move this if it's in the wrong place)

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to know if I could use an HD68B09EP in my Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 sampler instead of the AMI S68B09P for testing purposes as there may be something wrong with the original AMI 68B09 and the EP variant is much more common these days it seems(I already have one to try).

I understand I may need to make some changes on the PCB if it is at all possible in the first place. I have added a link to the schematic.

Thanks in advance.
Martin
PS anyone know how to read the internal ROM off a 6801?

'E' means that it needs external two-phase clock generator (6809P have it inside),
and simple replacement should not work.

Hi,

It would be easier to get a new MC68B09P on eBay at a few dollars (see, for example, http://www.ebay.com/itm/MC68B09P-Manu-MOT-Encapsulation-DIP-8-Bit-Microprocessing-Unit-/110894522856?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d1d421e8) and use it.
The HD68B09EP does not have a clock generation circuit, so, to use it, you have to change your PCB and add an external clock generation circuit.

It should be possible to read the internal ROM of 6801.
To do that, set the P20, P21 and P22 pins to 0, 1 and 0, respectively, during reset in order to put the chip into "Multiplexed RAM" mode. Then the chip reads the reset vector (the address from which the first instruction is read) from an external memory. So you can execute a program that reads the content of the internal ROM and outputs it. Consult the datasheet of MC6801 for details.
