hey guys
yesterday i broke my cpu it was an AMD Phenom II x4, i took to pieces to clean the dust on it, but i broke a pin
what can i do? can i try to put the pin on the plate in the corresponding "hole" of the soket? what could i risk?
My mb is ASrock M3A770DE (AM3 socket) - you can find it here http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.it.asp?Model=M3A770DE
I found this new cpu Phenom II X6: http://www.amazon.it/AMD-Phenom-II-X...ds=phenom+2+x6
do you think it fits 100% with my mb? or there could be any bugs or problems?
should i update bios? if so, can you tell me how please?
thank you!!! |

for the question of the bios version. i would say download "CPU-Z" and look at the motherboard tab. it will tell you what bio's version you have.
from what i gather on the motherboard support page, yes the motherboard will support x6 processors. i'm not sure which processor you were wanting to get because the site wouldn't work but the board says it supports all of them as far as i can tell.
like you stated you might need to update the bios. just get CPUZ and it will tell you your bio's version and you can match that up with what processors that bios version supports.
now for the pin.. that is a case by case basis. some times it works flawlessly, other times it works but is unstable. unlucky people tend to find it wouldn't work at all.. so throw a pin in there, set the cpu on it and clamp it down and PRAY! if it doesn't work, the computer will just not start, i don't hardly think anything bad can come from trying to make a link where one was already made. you arn't crossing wires, just trying to piece the connection back together.. lol it won't hurt anything, like i said the computer just wont start. at the very worst that i could imagine is the computer starting but being unstable and crashing over and over. blue screens and such. but in the end, just grab a new processor and try not to be so rough with the delicate parts of a computer. (by that i mean everything about a computer lol)
good luck and i hope it works out for you!
if you need any more help, please stop back by. |

Find the broken pin on this pic.
If it is green, red or gray you are lucky and this cpu should work.

| just like frag said, if it's a Vcc or a gnd pin, just put the CPU in without the pin and it'll be fine. I'd try it anyhow. A missing pin will, at worst, just keep the system from booting. |
