|
|
| Hi! I'm planning to buy an AGP card (Jaton 3DForce6200XE Geforce 6200 512mb 64 bit DDR2 AGP 8X Low Profile) to be installed in Asus P5PE-VM motherboard with a max 2Gb of DDR-400 memory. The website does not specifically identify any compatible video cards from either Nvidia or ATI. My question is: Does this card function well if there are two varying memory technologies involved? (DDR2 for the video card & DDR in the system memory of the motherboard). I'll use this old system to play internet games, just to shy away from integrated graphics. Any advice from the readers shall be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi,
Of course this isn't a problem. The VRAM and the RAM works completely independently from each other. And your motherboard should be compatible to any AGP based cards.
Why considering buying such an outdated video card? _________________ Check out my museum project with more than 1500 CPU pics: http://www.cpumuseum.jimdo.com/ |

ddr1 system ram and even ddr5 graphics ram can work together on the same system. obviously this combination would be extremely rare to see in one box, BUT it is possible. the single problem with a configuration like that is ddr1 system ram would not be able to pump enough information fast enough to give the ddr5 ram something to do all the time (this is called bottlenecking) {when one component has to wait on another}
note: the processor would have various restrictions on the speed of information to the graphics but for the purpose of ram to ram question, this explains that system ram and graphics ram is not directly synced.
to answer your question further; keep in mind that all mid to high end gaming systems use ddr3 system memory and ddr5 graphics memory.
the whole configuration can be reversed and ddr3 system memory will work with ddr1 graphics memory but this is HIGHLY unrecommended but proves that the 2 rams run independently. |
