Hi All,

I got a bit bored of putting my CPU's into a database and into little bags, so I decided that I'd much prefer to frame some. I chose only to concentrate on Intel CPU's (I'll do server CPU's and non-intels at some point in a different frame) although the keen-eyed will notice I don't yet have an Intel 8085.

Finding a big enough frame was the first trick Wink (IKEA!) and then I went through what I had in my collection and tried to find one of each CPU type and speed-stepping. I am missing a few, particularly 186/286/386's and some socket 478's but I'll keep huntin'!

I will be colouring the background (probably white), and making up small cards for each CPU describing its release date, speed, transistor count etc.

That is an excellent question.

I have been toying with a few ideas ranging from small neodymium magnets glued to the back of the CPU's through to velcro dots through to a couple of drops of hot-glue on each CPU.

The least 'damaging' method out of these would be the velcro dot method, but aligning the CPU's neatly then becomes a problem. I am tending to think that hot-glue would be the best option both in terms of cost and also allowing for the CPU's to be accurately oriented before the glue set.

Nevertheless, I am very much open to suggestions from members who have previous experience in this type of thing!

I wouldn't glue stuff to the CPU, it's going to hurt their value.

I would suggest using a low density black antistatic foam cut to the size of the chip which you could then push the chip into.
Then put a velcro dot on the bottom of the foam to attach it to the Board.

I also would suggest antistatic foam. Even if it is not the cheapest way, but at least you can rearrange your parts at any time and the value of your chips is not affected.
To place leadless chips, you can use short pins or peaces of wire to make a support.

I also used framless picture frames, put wooden stripes to the side and reattached the cover glass on top...

Your frame looks awesome!

Do you know where to get this antistatic foam in Germany ("Antistatische Schaumstoffmatte")??

I'd like to frame my collection too Laughing
