Hello all!
As you can see at http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21226 I'm really interested in taking die shots and I'm collecting them instead of chips. Now that I have a nice method to take die shots I'd like to get all the most interesting chips for die photography. I've already found, got as donations or bought many interesting chips, but I have difficulties finding these ones or getting damaged ones for low enough price:
- i287XL
- IDT WinChip II as the only x86 CPU left
- Am29050 (very important)
- Intel i960 MC or MX (if broken one for low enough price)
- ARM610 and ARM710
- Some Fairchild Clippers (if not too rare)
- MicroSPARC I and early SPARC like Fujitsu MB86903 (very important)
- MIPS R2000, R3500, R4200, R4300, R4645, RM7000, R8000, R8010 (not so high priority because I have most of the MIPS CPUs already)
- Motorola 88110, and also wirebond ceramic versions of PPC602 and PPC603
- Zilog Z8 (early ceramic version)
- Alpha 21064, 21064A and 21066 (EV4 generation), LSI-11 (first PDP-11), F-11 MMU, J-11 FPU and VLSI VAX chips (not MicroVAX) if not too rare and expensive
I'm looking for the most affordable ones that are preferably common versions and/or in bad condition. Every condition is OK for me as long as the lid area is OK or dies of opened chips aren't cracked, scratched or too difficult to clean so that I can still get nice die shots. I prefer wirebond ceramic packages (if possible) because they are easier to open without damaging the die.
I'm looking for the lowest possible price for these and I'll give you all a nice die shot of every chip I get. I prefer ones in not so good condition that you can donate or sell for close to scrap price. The lower the price the sooner I can buy them, and chips with higher price likely have to wait. Of course, die shots are also OK for me if you can take them yourself instead of donating/selling chips for me. I'll update this list after I get good die shots or find, get as donation or buy some chips.
Also other broken ceramic chips are OK if I haven't got good die shots of them or ordered them yet, so just let me know if you have some broken chips you can donate or sell cheaper than usually.
I really hope that you can help me to take a pretty complete set of beautiful die shots available and usable for all of us!
- Birdman.
P.S. I can ship the chips back after taking good enough die shots if you want. However, then they'll be non-working with open lids and possibly some visual damage (like bent pins, brown markings due to the heat while opening the lid and some paint in edges) but with flawless dies ready to be looked at.

Thanks Birdman
I'm on my way to Japan right now, but when I get home (early December), I'll start putting together another set to send you. |
