Don't have to wait for me
The ES marking on the C8080B I believe is just co-incidence, especially as this type of marking was only found on the very last of the 8080Bs.
I suspect the 0000X, Xx000 & ESx000 markiings are some internal Intel code, maybe wafer number.
But when you look at the initial production on 8080s you could consider it to be a sample of some sort
The first production 8080 released was the C8080, so therefore everything before is a sample of some type
The first die rev I suspect has never been seen & never left Intel
8080s marked 8080 I suspect are actually 2nd die rev (sames as 8080B & C8080B)
Why I think that is Intel don't produce a product in 2 die revs using the same code/lot number. There is a 8080 & 8080B both with the 1253X code mark
Next came the C8080C (3rd die rev) which was adopted as the production die rev and was marked as C8080 for release
On a side issue when it was realised that was C8080 was flawed and produced a 4th die rev they initially marked them as C8080-8 and eventually decided upon C8080A
So to condense it
1st die rev >> probably never seen, possible some of the 8080 are 1st rev
2nd die rev >> 8080, 8080B, C8080B
3rd die rev >> C8080C, C8080 (this also includes 8080s marked with S-1283 stepping **)
4th die rev >> C8080-8, C8080A
Everything I would consider a sample (no matter on exact markings) I have marked in blue
** These units had their part number remarked, likely done by the OEM _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
