COOL! We have another Linux user here! Love it!
I use Suse 9.3 since last Spring.
Window$ mustdie!
Good luck Marcin! _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |

Hello Slava,
What type of Linux you prefer for small server (local net files, internet gate). That must need poor hardware configuration :
4 x Pentium Pro 200/512
768 MB SDRAM
2 x 4,3 GB (mirror) so only 4,3 available
VGA integrated
CDROM
Suse 10 is to much for this server I think but I don't know exactly. _________________ Visit ABC CPU - Virtual CPU Museum. |

The best choice would of course be Slackware, but you need a vast knowledge of the OS to configure the server properly.
FreeBSD would be great too
But anyway, it's Linux. You can configure everything under this same SuSE 10 and then disable the X server (graphical interface) at all, so that it boots into console and just does it's job.
| Code: |
slava@linux:~# joe /etc/inittab
# The default runlevel is defined here
id:5:initdefault:
|
Change "5" into "3" and press CTRL+K X. You will set the runlevel to console only. _________________ Collecting soviet and western CPUs once again -- highfive to old-timers o/ |
