Hi First time posting, I know a wee bit about PC's and have contacted DELL with my enquiry, I would appreciate if someone could confirm there info. I could not contact their tech dept, just their general online chat adviser.

I have a 2005 Dimension 8400 desktop with a intel pentium 4 560 / 3.6 GHz processor. It was about £600 back then and I felt decent.

I am looking to upgrade and interested in the DELL inspiron 660 desktops with the Intel® Pentium® Processor G2030 (3M Cache, 3.0 GHz) processor.

I asked how much faster it will be compared to my 8400. >> It is 20% better than the one you have.

Then asked about the 660 with the 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor >> It is around 40% better than your old machine.

Any confirmation / advice etc would be appreciated.
Cheers Moss

A G2030 is worlds faster than a Pentium 4 560. Easily 3-4x faster in multithreaded applications. Probably no less than double in single threaded apps. Overall, 2-3x faster, taking into consideration it's a MUCH newer architecture, wider/faster memory bus, supports all new SSE instruction sets, and does all of this using around 1/2 the power.

Many thanks for the info, I had a feeling that the Dell customer adviser was just plucking figures out of the air to get a sale! 20% as they mentioned is not much advancement in 9 years.
