|
|
I'm trying to find a motherboard with 2x AGP support for testing early AGP graphics cards. It's easy to find support for 4x and 8x AGP, I have at least 2 (probably more when I sort through them!), but for 2x support it seems almost impossible. I have looked at numerous AGP motherboards on eBay, and googled part numbers to try and get specs. Boards either say AGP 4x/8x or they just say AGP, which doesn't guarantee 2x support (or even 1x, when I get very early cards to test).
Can anyone recommend any boards to search for, or specific chipsets worth keeping an eye out for? I'm in no hurry as it'll be a while before I have the space to set up my test benches, but I'm trying to get my graphics card collection organised and part of that means being prepared
Better still, if anyone has a board they want to sell for a nominal price (this isn't a wtb thread, but always worth putting out feelers....) which is known to work and support 2x AGP please let me know mATX is best, but anything will do. I'm not worried what CPU socket is involved, except that I don't want to use a slot processor. This is solely for testing older GPUs, partly to gather more info for gpuzoo.com (a board that is good for benchmarking would be perfect!) _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Not sure if this would do the job or not but if it would then I would test it to make sure it is going _________________ The Older they are the Better they are.

I stopped looking at boards as late as socket 370 as they all seem to state 4x. If it works correctly with a graphics card that only supports 2x AGP then it would be perfect. It's a nice size
Do you have a Riva TNT / Rage Pro or older card (or any make which needs AGP 2X support) to test it with? If it works I will be interested in negotiating a price for it _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Thanks. Hadn't thought to look on Wikipedia for chipset info _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I just found a board on ebay that comes with a Voodoo3 2000 (they are AGP 2x) and have out in a cheeky offer. Good thing I gave up tobacco a few days ago, gonna need the extra money _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

You should go for VIA KT333 and below, i815 and below (440BX). As a rule of thumb - all socket 370, socket 7, Slot 1/A will work with AGP 2x.
Or look for AGP 4x without any keys.

It's not been too bad this time. I think I've been too dosed up on caffeine _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

For ultimate performance there are two good setups:
VIA KT333 chipset (e.g. Asus A7V333) + unlocked Athlon XP (XP-M or mobilized desktop or Geode NX).
VIA P4X266-E + Northwood with high multiplier. |
