I have an Asus A7v133 socket A mb runnung an AMD Tbird 900. I went to the Asus wesite and tracked my board. It says that fastest processor that is supported is the Athlon XP2100+ with model 6 Palomino core. That document was dated a couple of years ago. I noticed they also had an update for the bios with a descriptor of "support new processors". No details as to what may be supported. From what I can gather the Palomino core is a .18micron core. My question is: 1.Can I use a processor with a .13micron core. 2. What is the difference between a Palomino coreand a Thoroughbred core? 3. I'm thinking that as long as I stay in socket A with a package type of OPGA and a FSB of 266 I should be OK. 4. My motherboard has a jumperless feature...ie let MB autodetect CPU...If bios can't support new CPU(ie autodetect it) then I should be able to jumper MB for spec'ed core V and for spec'ed frequency X. Does this sound OK??

According to the page below the 1009 BIOS adds support for Athlon XP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron) processors:

Still, the fastest supported processor is 2200+. Upgrading to 2400+ or 2600+ may or may not work.

Gennadiy: The doc you referenced me to has a question mark in the MP column for my MB which means it's currently being tested so they can't say for sure if it will work. I looked at the specs for the Xp vs the MP and they are identical except for the power consumption...vcore 1.6 on Xp 60watts vs vcore 1.45 on MP 45watts.....In some of the documentation I've seen it actually says desktop replacement when looking at the MP.
Do you think it would be a safe bet to go for the MP (lower power = cooler running CPU which should translate into more stability I assume).

When you say "MP" you probably mean "mobile XP-M". The "MP" the page mentions are Athlon MP processors. Athlon MPs are based on the same core as Athlon XP and have the same voltage/power consumption.

If the moterboard supports 1.45V and you can get to try mobile Athlon XP-M from somewhere (from a friend or local store) I'd go for it.

Gennadiy: You are correct. I was reffering to the Athlon XP -M (mobile) that has the same specs as the Athlon XP except for power consumption. I don't have access to one before I buy but I think I'll go for it anyway. Thanks for your input.
