Hi
Is it possible to use an AMD Athlon 64 x2 TK-57 socket S1g1 CPU in a laptop that has an AMD Sempron SL-42 socket S1g2 CPU
If so would I see an increase in performance using the two core CPU |

To my knowledge, you cannot put an older S1g1 CPU in a S1g2 platform; they will not work.
You would notice a performance upgrade just by going to a dual core S1g2 CPU. Possible upgrades include:
The AthlonX2 for Notebooks QL-60, QL-62, QL-64, and QL-65 are available on eBay for $5-15;
The TurionX2 RM-70, RM-72, RM-74, and RM-75 are available on eBay for $10-20;
The TurionX2 Ultra ZM-80, ZM-82, ZM-84 are available on eBay for $20-40. ZM-86, ZM-87 about $40-60. |

Neon,
what CPU's are avaiable for a Toshiba Satellite A300D-18A with a PT10AP-6050A2172301-MB-A03 motherboard?
Is it possible to upgrade from a original AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0GHz RM-70 TMRM70DAM22GK Socket S1 (S1g2) to a AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core 2.6GHz M640 TMM640DBO23GQ Socket S1 (S1g3)? Please help me with this...
Thanks in advance! |

Pedro,
I do not know for certain, because I have not tried a Socket S1g3 processor in a Socket S1g2 motherboard. I have tried a Socket S1g2 processor in a Socket S1g3 motherboard, and that did not work.
I think Turion II Ultra M640 (S1g3) in your Toshiba S1g2 motherboard is not likely to succeed. If you try it then please let us know the result.
The safe course is to upgrade with a Socket S1g2 processor that will be compatible with your motherboard. Any of the Turion X2 RM-7x series or Turion X2 Ultra ZM-8x series could upgrade.
Note that the frequency range of these Turions is only from 2000-2500 MHz. The Ultras have 2M L2 cache instead of 1M L2. The performance difference between these Turions is small, so I recommend that you do not spend a lot of money, only to get a slight performance improvement. |
