Hello,

I am exploring the option of upgrading the CPU in my laptop, and I am unsure if I understand the potential to swap CPUs.
Some things that I have read seem to indicate that it is not as simple as swapping desktop CPUs.

I have the following laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834257582

From my research on CPU World: (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-A6-Series%20A6-4400M.html)
it would seem that these are the specs for this laptop's processor.
Specifically looking at the socket, which is listed as an FS1 type.

My current thought is that I "should" be able to swap this for an :AMD A8-Series A8-3530MX - AM3530HLX43GX
(info found at: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-A8-Series%20A8-3530MX.html)

However, I do not know if this swapping idea holds true for laptops, as I think it does for desktops.

If anyone would be able to assist me in understanding if this type of swap is possible, I would be very grateful.

Thank you for you time and assistance.

Andy

The A8-3530MX will not work. You need a processor for socket FS1r2. AMD A8-4500M and A10-4600M should work in your laptop. AMD A6-5350M, A8-5550M and A10-5750M may also work, but if you want to stay on the safe side then stick to A8/A10-4xxxM processors.

Gennadiy,

Thank you for the information and clarification to my question.

So what it comes down to is that I needed to match the exact socket type, and not just the general type.

Thanks again!
