Upgread "hand me down" computer

hello everyone,
this is my first post. i was lucky enough to be given an old alienware full atx tower. unfortuntly the mother board is shot. so i am thinking of upgradeing it. i have a limited budget so i am shopping around and i am having a problem choosing.

right now i am considering Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core as my proccessor for a few reasons one it has a on board gpu, two it is lga1150, three its overclocable with stock fan to 4.6ghz problem its a dual core without hyperthreading. the motherboard i choose was the MSI Z97-G55 SLI ATX LGA1150, and the ram was G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866.

a little info on the case it is a full atx tower with water cooling two cdrw drives a 550 rms powersupply and really cool lights. it has a 512mb drive but i have a 1.5t drive at home i can use.

id like to budget my self to 300 max 350 with room for upgreading later down the road. the better the price the better i am.

im ok with amd i even thought of buying a AMD A10-7850K 3.7GHz Quad-Core but im limited the board will have to be a am2 which limits me from upgreading the cpu later down the road.

any and all incite will be greatly appricated because i dont really have any friends that are computer savy id like to bounc some ideas around.

You might want to consider having the power supply tested, so you don't risk destroying your new motherboard. The supply might be defective.

So i finally decided to go with a intel pentium G3258 and a MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard because i found a bundle deal together for only $99 now i am going to get Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory as my memory but i am trying to decided if i want to use the sata or the pci express for my hard drive connection. any ideas?
