Die shots of all DEC CPUs should be at http://simh.trailing-edge.com/dsarchive.html and LSI-11 control chip is the only almost square one among older chips. That 1976 is also too early for others than LSI-11 and this one looks like it but a bit more resolution is needed to confirm. Anyway, in this case you've found a really nice wafer. Unfortunately, I haven't got any LSI-11 yet for die shots.

yah the ones he posted are from my scanner, not ideal but worked
