I live in Idaho, near Boise.
10 minutes from my house is HP (Hewlett-Packard) which announced earlier this week they are splitting into 2 companies, one for PCs and printers and the other for everything else HP does (such as software).
I have many friends who have worked there and some of the CPUs in my collection came from them.
The other well known company here is Micron. I drive past it every day on my way to work.
I know a few people that work there as well. Even though they don't make PCs anymore (Micronics) there are times I can find an old Micron PC or motherboard, and sometimes a collectible CPU (usually Intel) is mounted on it.
Last weekend I bought a motherboard for $1.00, took it home, removed the heatsink and found a 100mhz Pentium. Even though I have some of those, it was SX963 which I didn't have. Also, as a bonus, a video card included with the mobo had 2 eproms with the window for UV erasing.
I think I live for things like this.
Enjoy your collections and the excitement of finding something you don't expect. |
