While looking at ES, I often find some chips not clearly marked as samples, but which could be. Sometimes because of where they come from, sometimes for other reasons. I'll post them here to get your thought about them but everybody can use this thread for "border-line" CPUs.

To start, I just sorted a bunch of scrap CPUs from an US validation facility. Two chips still remain in the "unsure" box.

The first one is a classic NxVL, but came in a Box marked "Pre". Seems earlier than every other known and the "Y02" (stepping?) is also quite old (wasn't able to find older than Y05 online)

The second is an UltraSparc II STP 1032 LGA but with a 360 MHz frequency not listed on Cpu world. There is some trace of them on Google, but I know nothing about Sparc.

Thanks for your help Smile

Some sparc freqs are not listed on cpu-world.
360 is known speed, no signs of ES.

Good to know. Is it just good to scrap or could it have some interest for a sparc collector ?

NxVL is just a chipset. Never understood why some collectors see the with the same importance as the Nx586, when most don't collect most chipsets.

No idea about the Y02, whether it is a stepping or just part of the lot code or what it is.

I don't collect non-ES and I'm thinking of a way to give away all my regular (and almost worthless) CPUs to fellow collectors for free. You'll get this one Wink

For me its because it looks cool. It says Nexgen, has a cool pin arrangement and has a gold cap! I'd collect more chipsets if they looked like that!

What do you think about this board and these C2117-3 ?

Date code 7745-7747. QDF is usually a reserved acronym for samples and this board include a Intel B2222 ES.

Perhaps, these are early Q-Spec numbers, similar to how Intel had early S#### S-Spec numbers.
