As I mentioned in MCS-80 test-board expansion topic , I’m working on a 8008 CPU tester too. Here are some details about its design:
First of all, I make the design based on Len Bayles’s project. See details here: http://www.8008chron.com/
He called his project as Intel 8008 Computer "Clock", but it was really the remake of the famous MARK-8 microcomputer. http://chc61.fgcu.edu/mark8.aspx
I like this design because it is modular and small due to PLD’s are used instead of tons of TTL gates.
My 8008 test system will be built up from a CPU panel and a control panel. They will be connected in piggy-back style. And will be powered trough a mini-USB or a 5V DC-jack connector.
- The CPU panel will contain a DC-DC converter (8008 requires -9V), a ZIF socket for CPU, address latch and system control logic.
- The control panel will contain an EPROM and IO functions similar to my MCS-80 test-board’s (4 push buttons and 8 LEDs) and restart button.
Hopefully, the 8008 test panels will be ready in a months.
In addition, I plan to implement other panels (memory, i/o, 7-segment led display, old style front panel) that are required for MARK-8 and real time clock functionality.
They will use the CPU panel of the test system and will be the replacement of test control panel. I call it µMark-8 system. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------

Greaat work!! Hope to see your design soon.
8008 is really hard work because there's no I/O controlling chips like 4289 for 4004 or 8228 for 8080.
I use LT1931 for my board to generate -10V. It requires few additional components and really reliable I think. _________________ Tracing 4004 all over the world |

Finally the prototypes of the i8008 test-system are done.
The base test system is built up from a CPU board and a test control panel.
It has the similar functionality as my MCS-80 test board.
The two-board test system will cost around $75-$80
The waiting list of two-board test system:
