|
|
| Hi! I have planned to revive an old board for home use, mostly for web browsing, e-mail and light gaming among others. (The specs: LGA-775 Asus P5PE-VM, 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo E4600, 2Gb Corsair DDR-400, 260Gb WD Caviar Blue SATA HDD, 256mb inno3D GeForce 5500 FX 8X AGP Card) Its really an old rig, I just want to spare some cash than to build a new one. It's compatible with Windows 7 and I want to install a 64 bit OS but I'm hesitant coz the board only has 2Gb max RAM. Win 7 64-bit loves lots of RAM, does it slow down the system even if I have only 2Gb RAM? Or shall I stick with a 32-bit OS? Any advice shall be appreciated. Thank you very much. |

2Gb should be barely enough even if you use it not for gaming or browsing heavy flash-rich sites.
Imho if changing hardware is not an option then go for 32-bit Win XP. |

| The system won't be happy with only 2GB of RAM while running Win 7 x64. Win 7 x32 would be *okay*. |

That should work with 2GB of RAM without much of trouble. I have worked on Dell OptiPlex GX520 of Pentium 4 HT with only 1GB of RAM running slowly, but it works. Be sure to have enough disk space for that |
