Intel C1702A - two different dies

I just received two seemingly identical Intel C1702A EPROMs (thanks Glory_Cloud). I took a couple of photographs and noticed something interesting; even though they look identical one has a die numbered 1601A and the other one 1602A. Was this common practice?

1601 was the one time programmable version (no quartz lid)
Physically the same though

Probably leftover die that was not a good selling point for OTP at that time Confused

That sounds plausible with the leftover dies. Didn't think of that.
