Hi,
I've just got a HP XW6200 and I want to put an extra CPU in it. I've looked on the HP website and the extra processor is about £800 it's a 3.4 XEON MNF# DY668A. I have noticed that I can by the same spec INTEL branded one for £400 MNF# BX80546KG3400EP.
Could anyone tell me is there any difference between the two processors and would I be able to run them together in the same system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

What you can do is:
- run CPU-Z, WCPUID or similar program to determine CPUID of your processor. Alternatively you can open your computer, pull out the processor and look for S-spec number - unless HP covered it with a sticker.
- Download Intel specification update from this page: http://www.intel.com/design/xeon/specupdt/302402.htm. . Somewhere on page 10 or 11 you'll find a table that will show what CPUIDs are compatible with your CPUID. Then use data from the same PDF file, or from processorfinder.intel.com, or from this site to find out processor S-Spec numbers compatible with your processor.
