Trying to figure out what is faster for a long time now. About a year now.

I have an Athlon x2 2350 and Athlon x2 4200+ both for socket AM2.

Part Numbers.

ADO4200IAA5DO

Any ideas? The 2350 seems to be the same thing with a lower clock.

This site has this page as regards these two CPUs:

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/789/AMD_Athlon_64_X2_4200+_%28Socket_AM2__65W__rev._G2%29_vs_AMD_Athlon_64_X2_BE-2350_%28rev._G2%29.html

The simplest points are the architecture, the frequency and the power consumption. Both have the same underlying structure and capabilities so no advantage there. The clock speeds are quite close being 100MHz apart and again not much difference in performance. The power consumption is 20W different with the 4200+ using more. This last point should be the only crucial one of difference. In real life usage the difference would be invisible.

All things being equal, I would use the 2350. The only question would be does the intended motherboard support it?

Power consumption will be lower with the newer core (2350). But performance wise, you probably won't be able to tell any difference. Virtually the same performance.
