Hi! I guess all of you have seen the news that there's a class action lawsuit against AMD for claimed bogus/misleading core count in the Bulldozer microarchitecture and related products.
I'm interested in your take on this.
For myself, I'm leaning towards the side that there is something to this lawsuit.
But.. the definition of what a constitutes a "core" isn't all that clear, so there's obviously is a discussion to be had.

I said from the layout that it was not 8 real, independent cores, but someone in these forums insisted they were. Turns out the connected integer units cannot run separate, independent code, so they are not 8 core chips. Plus the fact that however you look at it, there are only 4 FP units, and I don't recall the marketing ever saying "8 integer cores" or "8 integer units spread across 4 cores" (the latter being more accurate).
So I hope they at least have to apologise, and give free upgrades to those affected. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
