|
|
I am debating on whether to purchase the Intel Pentium 4 3.06 533 FSB 486 processor or the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 processor.
Can anyone give me some suggestion of which on I should go for. I don't do much extensive gaming, only play like Starcraft, Dawn of War most of the time and other times just homework using words excel. I also like buring cds and dvds. I like to multi-task opening bunch of programs at the same time, basically.
Thanks for your help in advance.

The AMD Athlon 64 3200+, but instead i recommend you to buy Intel Pentium 4 at 3'2 Ghz with 800 Mhz bus (Prescott). I think the intel processors are faster than amd processors . |

I'd go with AMD 3200+. AMD will be faster at about the same price.

INTEL INTEL INTEL.
So much better on returns.
Can get a swap out on ANY intel chip within 24 hours....
Ever tried swapping out an AMD chip? THEY ARE POO AT RETURNS!!!! |

But i think the main objective on using it, not swap it...
Almost like, "Ahh, the spare parts for a russian Trabant is so much cheaper i think iīll buy that instead of a BMW."

Well... AMD, renowned for having a FAR higher failure rate than Intel. It always concerns me.
This is also even more so the case with the mainboards. AMD mainboards tend to fail in far greater quantity's than intel.
So going on failure rate, and quality and speed of the returns departments, INTEL is a sure winner. |

Ok.
I still recommend AMD.
You canīt choose CPU after what might-eventuall-in-worst-case-scenario-can happen... Its like you canīt go outside because you might get hit by a car.
There would not be a AMD today if they where renowned to fail.

I used to be AMD forever aswell.. but time has taught more to go for reliability.
There are just SO many things that INFURIATE me about AMD...
Just one thing for example! The original thunderbirds. how many people cracked the cores? I must have wasted Ģ1000's on those horrible CP's... Would AMD take them back under warranty? noo....
AMD's run hotter.. and never used to have a cut off point.
Have you ever tried to burn out an intel chip with no heatsink??? Can't be done!!! The machine powers off before damge is caused!
AND ANOTHER THING....
Have a look at the different qualities in the boards... AMD mainboards, and intel mainboards... The intel supported boards will ALWAYS win the race.
OOooooh... you're getting me startd now!
INTEL ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!! |

Whoooo take it easy....
I am not talking about the Intel vs AMD fight. He asks for best performance for the buck. Thats AMD. Fact. Period.
AMD beating Intel 10-0 in a dual core performance/prizefight.
If you want to discuss Intel vs AMD im not your man. I run a 2 Ghz Intel and an AMD 3200+ and have no religious thoughts about either.
Edit: And the AMD has been running 24hrs a day since february. Pure luck...

Not quite asking for what performs best for the buck.
Jackie says that homework is important... Well.. if I was her, I'd stick to Intel... for reliability... homework is important and we dont want anything to be handed in late because of a faulty AMD CPU now! hehe |
